Creative Writers making opera - and impact

February 26, 2015

One current MPhil in Writing student, Cathy Dreyer, and two Creative Writing graduates, Duncan Stockwell and Tom Stewart, have been working with Music Theatre Wales and the RWCMD on the Make An Aria project.

Based on recorded stories, collected items and photographs associated with the role of St Fagans as a First World War Hospital, these arias, written by student composers and writers and sung by professional singers, will give operatic life to those people 100 years on. This masterclass in the company of one the UK’s leading composers, Jonathan Dove, will enable emerging Artists to discover opera and gives audiences an intriguing insight into the creation of new opera.

Their work will be performed at a public masterclass tonight, Thursday 26, February, in the Richard Burton Theatre at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Tickets are £12.
